In celebration of United Nations World Environment Day, Red Sea Global (RSG) helped to regenerate the local environment through impactful initiatives with two hotel partners: Nujuma, A Ritz Carlton Reserve, and Six Senses Southern Dunes.

These activities not only align with our mission but also significantly contribute to land restoration, combating desertification, and improving biodiversity within our destinations.

Nujuma A Ritz Carlton Reserve: Enhancing Marine and Land Biodiversity

At Nujuma, A Ritz Carlton Reserve, our Sustainable Hospitality Operations team helped to plant Sea lavender (Limonium), a resilient coastal plant known for its ability to thrive in salty and sandy environments. They also planted Mangrove seedlings, which play a crucial role in coastal ecosystems.

Sea Lavender

The plant’s extensive root system helps stabilize sandy soils, preventing erosion and promoting soil health. By planting Sea lavender, we are not only beautifying the island but also enhancing the resilience of the coastal ecosystem. The plant's ability to thrive in saline environments makes it an ideal choice for our restoration efforts, helping to create a more stable and sustainable habitat for various marine and terrestrial species.

Mangroves

These unique trees and shrubs grow in intertidal zones and play a critical role in protecting shorelines from erosion, reducing the impact of storm surges, and providing habitat for a diverse range of marine life. Mangroves act as natural water filters, trapping sediments and pollutants, which helps maintain water quality. By planting Mangrove seedlings along the shoreline, we are not only enhancing the natural beauty of the area but also contributing to the long-term health and sustainability of the marine ecosystem.

Six Senses Southern Dunes: Combating Desertification

At Six Senses Southern Dunes, our Sustainable Hospitality Operations and Landscaping teams planted Arabic moringa (Moringa peregrina) trees to help combat desertification, a major environmental challenge in arid regions.

Arabic Moringa
Moringa peregrina is a drought-tolerant tree that thrives in arid conditions. Its deep root system helps stabilize the soil, reducing erosion and promoting water retention in the ground. This tree is also known for its ability to grow in poor soil conditions, making it an excellent choice for combating desertification.

Additionally, Moringa trees provide essential nutrients to the soil through their leaf litter, which decomposes and enriches the earth. This not only improves soil quality but also supports the growth of other plant species, thereby enhancing biodiversity.

Raising Awareness and Engaging Communities

These planting events were more than just environmental activities; they served as platforms to raise awareness among our hotel operators, guests, and local communities about the importance of environmental conservation. Participants learned about the critical role these plants play in maintaining healthy ecosystems and the steps we can all take to support biodiversity and sustainable development.

Engaging our hotel operators and guests in these activities fosters a deeper connection with the environment and highlights the importance of sustainability in our operations. By involving the community, we are creating advocates for environmental stewardship who can help spread the message of sustainability beyond our destinations.

Our Continued Commitment

Red Sea Global remains steadfast in our mission to lead by example in sustainable tourism and development. These initiatives on World Environment Day are just a glimpse of our broader efforts to protect and enhance our natural environment. Our efforts to plant Sea lavender, Mangroves, and Arabic moringa trees underscore our dedication to creating sustainable habitats, combating desertification, and improving biodiversity.

As we look to the future, we will continue to prioritize environmental sustainability in all our projects, ensuring that our destinations remain vibrant and thriving ecosystems for generations to come.

We invite everyone to join us in our ongoing journey towards a more sustainable future. Together, we can make a significant impact.
